Due to the current situation regarding the energy supply, the festival management hasn’t made an easy the decision about the implementation. Therefore, the energy consumption of the festival will be reduced by at least 30%, whereby a 20% reduction in energy usage is the target set by the municipality of the city Lucerne. The city administration also demands a concrete plan of measures how this target can be reached. The Lilu Light Festival Lucerne thanks you very much for your valuable support!
Our third edition ended yesterday, Sunday, with a new record number of visitors! Around 110,000 people enjoyed the tour with 21 light installations in the city of Lucerne from 6 to 16 January and visited the light shows as well as the concerts of the side program. We draw a very positive balance. The next Lilu will take place from 12 to 22 January 2023. Click here to go directly to the aftermovie 2022.
In the first four days, around 5,000 people have already visited the light shows in the Hofkirche and the Casineum. Since these two events, in contrast to the tour, require a certificate (2G) and a fee, the total number of visitors is likely to be much higher. Tickets are still available online or at the box office in front of the Hofkirche (Rebstock).
The Lilu Light Festival Lucerne presents the first light installations and has expanded its supporting program for the third edition in 2022. In addition to the free tour through the artistically illuminated city centre, the light show in the Hofkirche will be combined with live concerts by well-known Swiss musicians on five evenings.
Dive with us into a new world of light and music. REFRAKTO, an audiovisual show by the Danish artist collective Vertigo, combines music with light installation and laser mapping. The light show is accompanied by the composer duo Den Sorte Skole.
The collective from Copenhagen is known for developing immersive artworks that bring together light, moving images, sound and the latest technology. The team specialises in the design and development of both generative art and interactive installations for cultural and communication purposes. Vertigo’s creations are purpose-built, i.e. designed for indoor and outdoor use and on a large scale as needed.
REFRAKTO can be enjoyed «normally» with music from tape or with concerts by Den Sorte Skole. Tickets can be found here.
An unforgettable journey through the world’s greatest architectural wonders – immersive, unique and breathtaking! Inspired by masterful buildings such as the Sagrada Familia, the Sistine Chapel, Angkor Wat or Notre Dame, the artist collective Projektil presents its latest show WONDERS.
For the third time, Projektil will be a guest at the Lilu Light Festival Lucerne in the imposing Hofkirche and invites both young and old to this unique, immersive experience. The Zurich-based artists’ collective Projektil is looking for new ways of storytelling. In recent years, they have thrilled large audiences with shows such as Illuminarium, Light Ragaz or Viva Frida Kahlo in the MAAG light hall.
WONDERS can be experienced in different variations: be it with organ accompaniment (live) by organist Stéphane Mottoul or with concerts by Heidi Happy, Seven, James Gruntz or Sina. In addition, the show is also available «normally» with music from tape. Tickets can be found here.
The third edition of the Lilu Light Festival Lucerne will take place from 6 to 16 January 2022. Around 20 light installations will artfully illuminate squares and sights in the city of Lucerne over eleven days. Highlights are the light shows in the Hofkirche and now also in the Casineum Lucerne. Tickets are available now.
Together with Projektil and estec visions we were allowed to realize an installation in the Impulse Gallery. The 4-minute show «MOMENTUM» in the approx. 25m2 large room can now be admired free of charge at Haldenstrasse 19 (formerly Galerie Fischer)!
«MOMENTUM» is an immersive environment that awakens curiosity, heightens one’s senses, and evokes an illusion through the use of lights, mirrors and sounds.
Impulse Gallery bridges the gap between digital and physical art. Therefore, it is with great excitement to announce an exclusive first-ever collaboration between Impulse Gallery and Light Festival Lucerne Association with Projektil.
Using state-of-the-art technology, this project aims to stimulate the senses, allowing visitors to escape reality. Impulse Gallery is open to anyone who wants to be inspired by original artworks and the digital installation in the Infinity Room.
Get ready to be immersed by an Infinite State of Art.

Dear all, today the 3rd Lilu Light Festival Lucerne would have started. For well-known reasons, we had to postpone the 3rd Lilu until January 2022. But we don’t want to miss it and would like to spend the next 11 days online reminiscing with you. We would be delighted if you would share your favourite Lilu pictures from the last two years with us again. So that we can see them all, please use the hashtag #MyLiluMoment. By the way, we are giving away 5×2 tickets for the big light show in January 2022!
With a heavy heart we have decided to postpone the 3rd Lilu Light Festival Lucerne by one year due to the latest Covid-19 restrictions of the Swiss Federal Council. With again great light installations we would have loved to enliven the city of Lucerne with creative light art and to provide for beautiful emotions. However, the health of the festival visitors, the locals, the artists and the festival team is our top priority. The 3rd Lilu Light Festival Lucerne will take place from January 6 to 16, 2022.
Thanks for the support! Unfortunately we have not reached the funding threshold. Nevertheless, our crowdfunding campaign had a positive impact and we were able to generate a lot of attention. With a lot of passion and commitment we are now trying everything so that the 3rd Lilu Light Festival Lucerne can take place in January 2021.
Although the 3rd Lilu Light Festival Lucerne will not take place until January 2021, we too are strongly affected by the current crisis. Some sponsoring partnerships have already been cancelled and it is difficult to find new partners. Lilu offers a platform for many people who are also affected by the crisis and also for artists. Support us now on Funders.ch so that we can realize the 3rd Lilu Light Festival Lucerne from January 7th to 17th 2021. Thank you very much for your support!
Already for the third time we are able to launch a «call for projects» for Light Festival Lucerne. From January 7th to 17th we are inviting national and international artists to make Lucerne shine with us.
The second edition of the Lilu Light Festival Lucerne ended tonight. Over 70,000 visitors were thrilled by the 19 light installations from 9 to 19 January 2020. The next Lilu Light Festival Lucerne will take place from 7 to 17 January 2021.
The construction has begun and the artists are slowly arriving. In addition, the Cygnus Swans of the Electric Swan Ensemble are making their way from Berlin to Lucerne.
The Lilu Light Festival Lucerne presents the first light installations – dancing swans, a water tower full of light and history, and illuminated facades will bring light and warmth to the city of Lucerne from 9 to 19 January 2020.
Peter Diem and the Restaurant Riviera celebrate the fusion of light and cuisine. Illuminated delicacies and drinks can be tasted at five Delightcubes. A multi-sensory happening in the space of light.
The team of the Peterskapelle, students of the Lucerne School of Music and the Lucerne School of Design & Art together develop an audiovisual story, which is projected onto the gallery of the church. On 16.01.2020 the light installation will also be accompanied by live music.
Tickets for the guided Lilu tour and Genesis 2 light show are now on sale.
Our new website went online in November 2019. Many thanks to Webshop Nanny for the concept and Studio Yacine for the technical implementation. Details of the light installations will be posted here as they become available.
For this second edition of Lilu, installations are also appearing in the Neustadt quarter, e.g. in the Vögeligärtli park.
The Genesis light show will again be taking place in the Church of St. Leodegar. Genesis 2, a continuation of the creation story, is produced by Zurich-based artist collective Projektil. Like last year, the show is about 20 minutes in length.
The Lilu Festival of Lights is entering its second season and returning in 2020. Put the event in your diary now: 9 to 19 January 2020.
